Michelin Restaurant: MYOMI Christmas Special Review

Hello everyone~ It's London. CK and I took some time to come out from our hibernation and celebrate our accomplishments in 2020 as the year ends. We went to Myomi, a Michelin-rated Korean cuisine restaurant. They had a Christmas special menu (Korean fusion) for the Holidays so we reserved a month in advance for dinner.

CK has always wanted to eat here (and as the more romantic one!), he suggested this place. I was hesitant as it was going to break our banks but one thing that drew me to this place was the view! It has glass walls so it is known for it's Changdokgung Palace view right next to it! CK reserved right when the reservation period opened and reserved for the best seats. It truly was~ We got seats next to Changdeokgung Palace and little did I know that we also got a little bit of a Namsan Tower view.

(Changdeokgung Palace View from our seats)

(Namsan Tower - There's two 4-seat tables on this side of the window which can only see Namsan Tower because a wall (elevator) blocks the rest of the tables from seeing it.)

(I couldn't drink wine because of my surgery but they apparently have "special" Coke which we thought was interesting...keke. Taste the same as Coke.)

Once we got to our seats, they asked us if we are cold to see if they should turn up the heat.

They came out with water and surprisingly, my water had a red pepper flake in it. They said it was a wine residue...but they had it replaced. Stuff like this happens everywhere so always double-check!

(#1: Leaf shaped appetizer w/sweet potato & sour cream)

A very light and slightly crispy appetizer.

(#2: Caviar with edible flowers and shrimp)

A little bit sour from the shrimp but not overwhelming and super delicious.

We were told to eat in a certain order with these three dishes.

(#2: Foie Gras)

The spicy mayo was a nice kick.

(#2: Truffle)

So soft and a good combination with rice! Just kidding lol. The rice is for visuals.

(#3:Yellowtail Amberjack fish w/apple and plum)

The top layer is thinly sliced apples with a plum sauce and raw yellowtail amberjack fish bites.

The yellowtail amberjack dish was sour and had a stronger flavor than the previous dishes so it kind of threw our palate off. Regardless, the fish was delicious. Yellowtail amberjack is mostly eaten in the winter (since it is seasonal in cold climates). It is a very popular dish to eat raw.

(#4: Radish and celeriac dish)

A Korean fusion pasta dish. A toned down creamy dish that allowed us to taste the different textures.

(#5: Pacific cod pasta w/stir-fried shrimp)

Another pasta dish made in a stir-fried shrimp sauce and mini bites. Stir-fried shrimp is a type of "banchan", side dish, that is eaten in Korea with a meal.

This dish tasted just like the stir-fried shrimp I have at home that CK's mother made, except without the pasta and sauce (a Michelin mom, perhaps?). The shrimp taste was a bit overwhelming and swallowed the flavor of the fish. Definitely not flattering for a date unless you want to impress your date with shrimp breath!

(#6: Duck w/beet and beet sauce)

You might not be into duck but the combination with beet was delicious! The duck inside and out was juicy and chewy. I preferred eating it without the beet sauce (the dot-like shape in the pic) to get a taste of the duck more.

(#7: Fermented mango, pomegranate, water-based radish kimchi)

Isn't it pretty? It is quite sour but not as much as the Yellowtail Amberjack dish. The flowers included were so needed because it balanced out the sourness.

(#8: Korean Sirloin steak w/ MYOMI's personally made ssamjang sauce)

It was originally pork belly but if we wanted, we could pay extra for steak so we paid an extra 25,000won/person.

Korean steak or hanwoo is very soft and chewy. I was expecting it to be soft but it was more chewy. Regardless, still delicious and went well with the sauce.

(#9: Panna Cotta and lime sorbet)

The lime sorbet was delicious by itself and when eaten with panna cotta, balanced out well. Yum!

(#10 in order of eating: Jenga chocolate, chocolate eggs, tart and tea)

Maybe it's because I am getting past my sweets-eating stage but the Jenga chocolate was very very sweet. I would've liked more dark chocolate inside or caramel filling to add some texture.

Chocolate eggs with powdered chocolate on the outside. Nothing too special but visually appealing.

The tart with a flower in the middle was super good. I would buy a box of these if I could!

They gave us tea options and I chose earl grey while CK (as shown in the pic) chose a flower tea (can't remember the name of it).

My final thoughts on MYOMI: 3.5/5
Pros:
-Amazing views
-Beautiful plating
-Food was fresh
-Great service

Cons:
-Gets cold at night due to glass walls so bundle up
-Red speck in glass of water
-Roller coaster ride of taste (too sour, sweet and overwhelming shrimp taste)
-After the first few dishes, we waited a while to be served our next dishes

I would recommend coming here during lunch (cheaper) in the fall when the foliage is in full bloom. Maybe April too since there might be some cherry blossoms view but I haven't seen any pics so far.

Find MYOMI here~
